Zumio: Whether or not you play a hunter you probably dislike the BM spec, or at least dislike how simplistic it is. Marksmanship has always offered slightly more complex gameplay and in the recent light of the MM buffs I thought I’d make this video to show the areas in which MM needs to be buffed to make people switch over from Beast Mastery. […]
MM Damage is low, our Utility is lacking and our mastery is just inherently worse than that of BM mastery. Please let me know your thoughts in the comments!
Enjoy!

“Whether or not you play a hunter you probably dislike the BM spec”
I do play a hunter and I do like the BM spec. I always have.
The simplicity is a positive. I like that I can both:
– concentrate on becoming very good at certain number of things and
– maintain a greater level of awareness of events around me
Those two things mean that I am MORE – not less – effective.
Please don’t assume that you understand how hunters think.
You probably meant “I dislike the BM spec”.
“MM needs to be buffed to make people switch over from Beast Mastery”
If you want to play something more complex, MM already is.
If you want to play something with big numbers, BM already is.
You’re not going to have one spec be everything.
Play what you like and others will do the same.
People don’t “need” to do anything other than that.
I’ve tried the other specs but have always come back to BM.
When the spec is weak, I work harder to prove that it can be viable.
When the spec is strong, I am in an even better position.
I play the game, my class and my spec because I like them.
Rather than expecting a constant strength of numbers, you might do the same.
Remember that you speak for yourself and to – NOT for – others.
Could’t agree more with this comment.
Im BM always have been BM because i prefer it its not about whats easier or simple thats not even a part of it.
I play BM because i love the spec and i try to be the best at what i do no excuses.
If your spec isnt the top atm, suck it up learn to use it anyway the idea your favorite spec should be buffed mearly because you think everyone must agree with you that BM sux is rather arrogant There are alot of pro BM players who like me find it the best spec to play in this game, of course i play the game i dont just look at the numbers or ladders.
@enigmachine
Your comment is right on the spot. I fully agree with you.
Although I guess something to keep in mind here is that Zumio probably only is talking about things from the PvP side of things.
Sure, BM is “simple” when Stampede was bugged to be too powerful in arenas. In PvE, though, we definitely hit more than 1 or 2 buttons. ;)
But I agree with you in general: I’m sure the point was supposed to just be “I do not like this spec, let me think of ideas for the spec I do like”, but very boldly saying that every single human being thinks one way is a very big No-No.
Yeah I love BM spec and always have…
Sorry?
I have played BM for 6 years and never would even consider playing another spec. Even when BM was on the low end I made due and held my own. Always!
I started playing WoW in BC, when BM was KING but was almost as easy to play as being a mage. With dual spec I tried SV and MM and like MM much better. The big BM nerf in Wrath caused me to switch to MM for raids, dungeons, and Pvp with BM relegated to solo work. I don’t pvp much but do agree that MM is pretty sad right now and needs a buff. My fear is that Blizzard with crush BM like they did in wrath. I disagree that right now BM is too simple to play. It’s lots of fun in PVE at least but I would like the other specs to be at least close in damage
LOL @ the people taking the video personally. The only reason the majority of hunters are BM right now is because there is no other option for hunter pvp. Surv/MM are so horribly under tuned BM is our only viable option. Some players dislike relying on pet AI (not to mention all of the other bugs our pets have).
BM still isn’t an easy spec. I have a toon of every class, play dual specs on nearly all of them. And I will admit it is easier in BM to do passable than it is in most specs (but not all) but to truly play BM right in its current incarnation is something all together different. Hell 99% of hunters still can’t do passable aspect dancing when its required. I still see people in LFR with fox macro’d into their cobra shot…
All that being said while current BM is the best pvp spec we’ve ever had its still a harder pvp spec than nearly any spec of any other class. Hunters require far far far more keybinds for pvp than any of the other classes. I’d think my monk has the closest to my hunter and he’s prolly less than half as many.
The forums are whining about BM cause its a viable hunter pvp spec …. and we aren’t supposed to have one apparently. I do think lynx is a little over the top. The move to bleed damage was warranted, to slow its burst down…the cut in its overall damage was not. I also don’t think it was right to take the pet protection off of BW.
Also I’ve played MM, and SV, both in current incarnations and raiding and pvp in cata….MM now is much easier than it was in cata. And even then it wasn’t terribly difficult. It was probably one of the hardest specs hunters have ever had but still not difficult.
You are right about one thing…MM in its current form is poorly designed. VERY. It needs more survivability and more dps. SV has always been my fav spec but BM has never been viable for all of my WoW career. It went nearly two full expansions with no viability in pve or pvp. Let it have its time in the light.
Zumio hit everything perfect in that video, I’m not sure Blizzard will do anything to change hunters in pvp right now. their only concern for patch 5.1 was to nerf BM and leave MM/SV as is. So Hunters will have to endure a long period of mediocrity and just get carried in rated BG’s by superior classes.
This has been the 8 year history of Blizzard when it comes to hunter balance in pvp. I recommend skilled players like Zumio reroll to a mage or warrior if they wish to be competitive and relevant in hard core pvp.
