In the Mists of Pandaria thread, Arash wrote, “The value of Evasiveness depends on how it will work. Whether you can use it like deterrence while fighting Ragnaros to completely avoid trap damage or just to avoid targeted projectile damage in fights like Hagara.”
In the Mists of Pandaria thread, Kuriso wrote, “I’m still sort of surprised that Exhilaration isn’t lowered or changed since 15% is pretty sizey a heal to a 15 second cooldown, no resource ability that gets you out of harms way with little to no hamper on DPS [...]. The issue with the Ammo talents was that they were too DPS influencing [...]. I doubt it would have felt like a decision in the long run.
Skhope replied, “There are several other dps specs that get more than 15% healing over 15 sec (rogues, dks, rets, etc.). Plus, we have no form of absorb and no way to remove debuffs unlike most other classes.”
In the Mists of Pandaria thread, Nooska wrote, “I think [Powershot] is overpowered because there are no limits – the cooldown on this would either make or break it if there is one, but even then, adding a CD would just create a need to make the ability even more powerful when it hit (damagewise). [...]”
In practice hunters won’t be allowed to stand 30+ yards away from the boss unless it is required by mechanics, just to use our awesome-shot. In addition, we would feel nerfed everytime we would have to stack on the boss because our awesome-shot just became our sucky-shot. There is a reason Sniper Training was changed to standing still, rather than standing 30+ yards from your target, and I’d rather not go down that path once more.
TrevvyTrev replied, “I think the larger point, though, is that not only is the calculator not telling the whole story in terms of specific talents [...], there’s no context for some of the larger changes either — other classes are getting abilities that may also be powerful or may counter some others. Some things probably can’t be declared OP without numbers, to boot. At best we can talk about the concept of certain talents, taking care not to rely on assumptions that aren’t supported by current data.”
For example, Powershot will in most instances be a 1 second AoE stun, because most targets won’t be more than 30 yards away. It’s also a controlled stun, and based on other comments [...] it seems that diminishing returns on controlled stuns aren’t going anywhere. Wasting DR on a 1 second stun (2 max) isn’t the no-brainer that it might seem at first. [...]. Finally, the damage multiplier suggests a mechanic similar to ice lance, where the base damage is hardly threatening.
Similarly, Binding Arrow has the same issues with running into stun DR, and seems to act only as a pseudo-control to “corral” targets into an area without actually forcing them to be immobile or otherwise controlled. The 15% damage boost might be significant, but it seems to only apply to a single hunter [...].
So far, the talents seem more exciting than overpowered [...], which I imagine is what the developers were going for when they introduced the “concentrated coolness” mantra.
As for hunters not being “allowed” to stand far away unless the mechanics require it, I would rephrase that to say that hunters won’t be allowed to stand far away if the mechanics prohibit it. That’s a smaller list.
Kamangir replied, “I think the problem with trying to determine the OP-ness [...] of Powershot is that we don’t know its focus cost or its cooldown.
Also, what do you guys think of Symbiosis? [...] I hope there’s more than just Dash. I can see that being useful in PVP, but not so much in PVE. I can’t see too many feral abilities being particularly helpful (since they are melee attacks) unless they go to the pet instead of the hunter. Tiger’s Fury or Omen of Clarity would be very nice though.
Archavon and Koralon (25 man) Soloed 2/22/12
In the Soloing Old Instances for Fun and Profit thread, Caribald wrote, “Just did Koralon and Archavon on 25 man. 2 attempts for Koralon, he doesn’t have a hard enrage even though it seems so on DBM, and he’s very slow so some pet kiting near the end makes it super easy.
Archavon probably would have enraged if I didn’t evade reset him, although that wasn’t intentional… Basically I feigned after he dropped my turtle after a grip, but my turtle hadn’t gotten on his aggro table again, so he reset… Except he kept his hp since he didn’t get all the way back to his normal spawn point. It was a oneshot so I didn’t bother resetting him and seeing if I could do it normally, especially since the battle was beginning (so I haven’t tried Emalon and Toravon, but I don’t really see them being possible on 25-man anyway).
Maexxna (25-man) Soloed 2/22/12
In the Soloing Old Instances for Fun and Profit thread, Caribald wrote, “Uploaded some videos. Maexxna on 25-man should be world first I think, I could at least not find anyone else who did it. Link to Maexxna 25 video: World first solo (hunter): Caribald vs Maexxna (25 man).”
In the Soloing Old Instances for Fun and Profit thread, Dragoran wrote, “I am currently trying Yogg but I have some problems with the 2nd stage. The amounts of debuffs is way too high and I just can’t make a step without puking or being caught by a tentacle. How do you deal with the black plague? Furthermore I lost so much time killing tentacles that I can’t down the brain to 30% the first time… Is there any trick?
Caribald replied, “For Yogg-Saron I use a macro to quickly target tentacles. Deterrence is able to deflect the spells from Corruptor Tentacles, so if you’re out of range of it and it casts Black Plague or Apathy, you’ll want to Deterrence, or in case you aren’t gripped, Feign Death. When you get used to phase 2 until brain portal, you should roughly know when you get gripped, and have your pet close for those times to instantly Kill Command the Constrictor Tentacle. The macro I use is:
/cleartarget /target Constrictor /petattack [exists, nodead] /cast [exists, nodead] Kill Command /target Corruptor /stopmacro [exists, nodead] /target Crusher
I’m not sure if the macro could be improved or if it works 100% of the time, but basically it does this: Clears your target and then targets Constrictor tentacle. If you have a target (if a Constrictor Tentacle exists), your pet will /petattack and Kill Command it. Then the macro targets the nearest Corruptor Tentacle (there should only be 1). If there are no Corruptor Tentacles, the macro continues to target the Crusher Tentacle; otherwise it stops and you’ll have the Corruptor Tentacle targeted. Then you can decide if you want to Deterrence, FD if you are ungripped or Silencing Shot if in range.
When you enter the brain room you should have killed one Crusher Tentacle and all Corruptor Tentacles (except maybe one if it spawns just as you have to enter and it isn’t in range). If you don’t have Black Plague or Apathy in the brain room and your hp isn’t low, killing the tentacles in there is super fast and you can probably kill the brain without even popping Rapid Fire; or at least you only have to pop one of them. Often I even have time to bandage in there before getting the brain down. You also want to dismiss your cat (you should use tenacity pet in phase 1 for intervene and switch to cat for phase 2), and only once you’ve left the brain summon your tenacity pet. Spam the macro to instantly silence any Corruptor Tentacle or Deterrence/FD it (if you used Readiness it’s 100% ready, otherwise might not be if you used it in phase 2). Never put your pet on Yogg, have it Moved To some place you can shoot adds that it’s tanking while having your back to Yogg. Basically in phase 3 you’ll want to instantly kill the remaining Corruptor Tentacle, then prioritize Immortal Guardians over the Crusher Tentacle, slowly getting the Crusher Tentacle down. Then you can start DPSing Yogg when he isn’t doing Lunatic Gaze, but sometimes you’ll need to dps Immortal Guardians even when Yogg isn’t doing the gaze, just take your time since the enrage is pretty long.
